Our Story

The Fibre of Everything

Most activewear is made from synthetic polyester: plastic that traps heat, sheds microplastics, and wears out within seasons. We believed there was a better way.


Strand is organic activewear made entirely from natural fibres such as hemp, organic cotton, and Tencel™. They breathe in the heat, get softer with every wash, and last for years. Every piece is designed in-house, tested through dozens of prototypes, and handmade in Portugal under fair working conditions.

Your Skin
Deserves Better

Your skin is your largest organ and acts as a protective barrier. During exercise, sweating increases and your pores appear more open, which can make your skin more sensitive to what it comes into contact with. We use only certified organic cotton, hemp, and plant-based Tencel™, fibres that are naturally breathable, antimicrobial, and free from the chemical treatments found in many synthetic fabrics.

We design every piece ourselves, testing fabrics, refining cuts, and adjusting colours across dozens of prototypes. We wear them, wash them, train in them, live in them. Nothing goes into production until it's right. Hemp fibre actually gets stronger and softer over time, unlike synthetic fabric that degrades with every wash.

From the Latin manu (by hand) and factura (making). We chose Portugal for its centuries-old textile heritage, its skilled artisans, and the slow, considered way things are still made here. Every Strand garment is cut, sewn, and finished by hand in an atelier, not a factory. Fair conditions, fair wages, no shortcuts.
